David studied percussion and received a BMus (Hons) at the Royal Northern College of Music, under the tuition of Dave Hassell and Ian Wright.
He has performed in a variety of ensembles and groups including The Juiliard school ensemble, Everything Everything Man Alive ensemble, Al Bustan festival orchestra and the Bristol Ensemble.
David was a member of the Giffords Circus band, (2011-15) directed by Cal McCrystal and music guidance from Nick Hooper. Following Giffords he joined Circo Raluy (2016) in Catalonia for a season. He spent the summer of 2018 with Ramshacklicious' street show 'Band at the end of the World', directed by Flick Ferdinando. He played for Spymonkey's A Christmas Carol 2018/19 at the Playhouse theatre, Liverpool. He lived in Bristol and became involved with directing two community orchestras- The Fantasy Orchestra and The Bristol Reggae Orchestra. He works regularly with Louis Bingham and their duo the Bingcows as part of the Live Music Now initiative. In 2019 David began touring globally with 1927's production 'Roots' and had a national tour of his first actor-musician role in the adaptation of Chris Haughton's children book Oh no, George! He now lives, on a narrow boat, in Todmorden, West Yorkshire.
